For the last five years, Underground Book Reviews has proudly written reviews of independent novels every Monday. A much-needed service for indie authors, it has been the staple of our magazine and the backbone of our mission - to erase the boundaries between traditional and non-traditional publishing. Some of you have watched us progress from casual blog to LLC to literary community. If you have, we hope you are as excited as we are about the direction of Underground Book Reviews. Now, with more authors clambering for reviews, we have come up with a way to sustainably continue our free services, while at the same time accommodating more indie authors. The answer: Assigned Reviews.

The assigned program was instated as an experiment in 2017 in order to pay our reviewers a better wage for the books they read. The idea was to use unbiased paid-for reviews to fund our weekly free reviews. Assigned Reviews were given the same quality attention and fair consideration we gave (and still give) to our free reviews. The program was closed for a variety of reasons, and we only ended up publishing three Assigned Reviews. A fourth Review was also written, but it remained hidden at the author's request. Below you will find all the Assigned Reviews we have published. Other than these three books, all reviews published on Underground Book Reviews were written at no cost.
