The Rundown

In Suanne Laquer’s award-winning novel THE MAN I LOVE, the rise and fall of Erik Fiskare and Daisy Bianco’s love story is filtered through Erik’s lens. The sequel, GIVE ME YOUR ANSWER TRUE, focuses on Daisy’s perspective. While three years have passed since their relationship imploded in the aftermath of a school shooting, deep scars remain, and so does the seemingly insurmountable distance between Erik and Daisy.

Distraught by Erik’s decision to disappear after she betrayed him and tormented by flashbacks of the day gunshots shattered her world, Daisy begins cutting herself. An old friend, fellow dancer “Opie” Quillis, resurfaces and helps Daisy veer from her destructive path and move toward healing and acceptance.

While Daisy does experiences professional achievements, close encounters of the “maybe I could love him” kind and even moments of joy, she never completely releases her connections to Erik, holding onto a familiar thought when she can’t bear not holding him . . . “Come back to me. “

The Recommendation

The fabric of Daisy’s point of view is intricately woven with flashbacks, fierce truths and a fearless look at what it means to forgive even if you can’t forget. Laquer is a master storyteller, and in this sequel, her characters continue to take center stage.

Give Me Your Answer True is a must-read sequel, and while the ending may seem a scene too short, there’s no waiting to find out what happens next. Here to Stay, the third book in Laquer’s “Fish Tale Series,” was released last week.

The author’s first acknowledgement is one that readers will echo, “It seems odd to thank a fictional character, but I do thank Daisy for persuading me to tell her story.” Thank you, Daisy.
